Three Things You Must Know Before Starting A Small Restaurant

“Catch a man a fish, and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish, and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity.” ~~ Karl Marx

For months, I’ve been wrestling with a problem.

The problem is, what do I say on this blog.

  • Do I write about food?
  • Do I write about promotions?
  • Do I write about the specials that we are having?
I just couldn’t figure it out… until now.

Honestly, I can’t write about food, because I rarely cook.  I don’t feel like writing about promotions all the time, because I’m not a big rah-rah type-of-guy.  Writing about specials, all the time is no fun either, there just so many ways to make dropping the price on gift cards exciting.

Therefore, to keep writing about exciting to stuff,  I want to take you own a little journey.

You might not be excited about it, but oh well. I’m going to start writing articles about how to own and operate a small business.  In particular, how to run a restaurant.  More specifically, how to start a bbq restaurant and catering company from across the country using only a telephone and a laptop.

But first, here’s…

Three Things you Must Know Before Starting a Small Restaurant.

  1. Employees may steal.
  2. Friends will leave you.
  3. And the government wants their money with interest.
If you keep this in the forefront of your mind, you will stay partially sane.  Starting a non-franchise business is not for the faint of heart, a well-to-do, or those who like to follow directions.

There’s no easy way to say it, so I’ll just quote my mother.

Here is what she said, after working 14 hours and two employees didn’t show up for work, “Getting up at 4 a.m. in the morning is hard.  But I love what I do, and I would not have it any other way.”

When was the last time you worked 14 hours and still loved what you do?

Exceeding Expectations,
P.s. If you stick with me, I’m going to show you exactly how to start a restaurant with no money.
