Why The Future Looks Dark For Barowskys Bread

by Kendall "The Barbecue Apostle" Matthews on March 18, 2009

A father is supposed to teach his child the ways of the world. He is supposed to show his son how to be a man, how to respectively treat a woman and open up a car door for her. Do you have a favorite memory or life lesson taught by your father? I do.

Its how to make “Butter Bread.”

One of my favorite lessons from my father was how to make this wonderful snack.

When I was growing up,  my father worked hard at Pennzoil Oil Company. When he came home he was rock-solid tired, but he knew he had to get back up to support my excellent high school football career at Francis Howell North.

He needed energy. He turned to “Butter Bread”.

He would pull out the loaf of WonderBread from the pantry. Place it next to his drink he bought at QuickTrip, which was on the breakfast bar. Next, he went over to refrigerator and grabbed a stick of butter, then opened the silverware drawer for a knife.

He would carry his tools to the breakfast bar. Before he started the assembly. He would take a long sip of his drink. Pause. Cut four or six tabs of butter. Then spread the butter gently over two pieces of bread, as if he was taught by Mr. Miyagi of Karate Kid The Movie.

Dad’s three step Butter Bread Ritual was:

  1. Another long sip.
  2. Fold bread in half.
  3. Insert in mouth.

I told you that story to tell you this…

I no longer eat bread and I am loving the results.

For the past two weeks, I have given up eating bread and cut back dramatically on my sugar intake. I’m not close to being over-weight. However, a good friend of mine from Purdue University, told me that removing this simple from his diet he was able to move his belt, three notches in the “right” direction.

I have seen my obliques (for those who graduated from Francis Howell North that is the muscle on the side of your body, right above your hips) shrink, I to moved my belt buckle a notch in the right direction, and I feel more energetic.

If you currently have the body that you deserve… now you would like to get the body that you want. Put down the knife, place the butter back in the refrigerator and take the bread out of your mouth.

Exceeding Expectations,

P.S.  I’m nearly done with our new website on How To Grow Grapes and Make Wine in The Midwest. I just need to place a few more pretty graphics and upload the audio version for those of you who would rather listen than read.
